Luxor Day Trip from Hurghada: What to Expect

By Hurghada Transfer · 5 November 2026 · 7 min read
The entrance of Karnak Temple in Luxor

Luxor is the trip most of our guests remember best. In one long day you see temples and royal tombs that are more than 3,000 years old. Here is how the day goes and how to choose the right tour.

In this guide
  1. Getting there
  2. What you see
  3. Small group, private or two days?
  4. Practical tips

Getting there

Luxor is about 300 km from Hurghada. The road crosses the Eastern Desert and the drive takes about four hours each way, with a short break on the way. That is why the day starts early: the pickup from your hotel is around 05:00 and you are back in the evening.

💡 Bring a light jacket for the early morning and the air-conditioned car, and sleep on the way: the guide will wake you up in Luxor.

What you see

Karnak Temple

The largest temple complex of ancient Egypt, on the east bank of the Nile. Its Great Hypostyle Hall has 134 giant stone columns, many still covered in carvings.

The Valley of the Kings

On the west bank, the pharaohs were buried in tombs cut deep into the mountain. The standard ticket opens three of the tombs that are open that day; some special tombs, such as Tutankhamun's, need an extra ticket.

The Temple of Hatshepsut

The terraced temple of the woman who ruled Egypt as pharaoh, built against the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari.

The Colossi of Memnon

Two giant seated statues by the road, a short photo stop on the way back.

Lunch is at a restaurant in Luxor, and you cross the Nile between the two banks.

Small group, private or two days?

Our small-group trip takes up to 8 guests in a minivan with an Egyptologist guide, from €87 per person including the entry tickets and lunch. It is the best value.

The private tour, from €155 per person, is only your family or group with your own guide and car: you decide how long to stay at each place. With children or older travellers, this is often worth it.

If you do not want to rush, the two-day trip adds a night in Luxor, the temple of Medinet Habu and more time at every site, from €242 per person. And for a once-in-a-lifetime morning, the balloon trip flies over the west bank at sunrise.

Practical tips

  • Wear comfortable shoes: you walk on sand and stone all day.
  • Shoulders and knees covered is respectful at the temples and keeps the sun off.
  • Bring cash for drinks, extra tombs and tips.
  • Photos are allowed at the temples; in the tombs the rules change, so ask the guide.
  • From October to April the weather in Luxor is pleasant; in summer it is very hot at midday, so drink a lot of water.
