Hurghada International Airport (HRG) is modern and quick, but the first half hour can still be confusing after a long flight. Here is what happens from the plane to your hotel, step by step.

In this guide
  1. 1. The visa
  2. 2. Money
  3. 3. A local SIM card
  4. 4. Meeting your driver
  5. 5. Taxi or private transfer?
  6. 6. The way home

1. The visa

Travellers from the UK, the EU and many other countries can buy a tourist visa on arrival. The visa counters are in the arrivals hall before passport control: you buy the visa sticker there, stick it in your passport and then queue for the passport check. You can also apply online before you travel on Egypt's official e-visa website.

💡 Visa rules and fees change. Check them with your airline or the Egyptian embassy a few days before you fly, and carry some cash for the fee.

2. Money

Egypt uses the Egyptian pound. There are ATMs and exchange counters in the arrivals hall. Euros and US dollars are accepted in many hotels and for excursions, but for small shops, taxis and tips you need Egyptian pounds. With us you pay the driver in cash at the end of the ride.

3. A local SIM card

The mobile companies (Vodafone, Orange, Etisalat and WE) have counters in the arrivals hall where you can buy a tourist SIM with data. Bring your passport: it is needed to register the card. A local number is handy for WhatsApp with your driver and your guides.

4. Meeting your driver

After passport control you collect your luggage and walk out through customs into the arrivals hall. With a private transfer, your driver waits there with a sign with your name. He watches your flight, so a delay is no problem and the waiting time is free.

If you cannot see the driver, send us a WhatsApp message on +20 100 735 5673 and we connect you within minutes.

5. Taxi or private transfer?

There are taxis outside the airport, but there is no fixed price: you agree the fare with the driver before you get in, and after a long flight this is not much fun. A private transfer booked in advance has a fixed price per car, not per person, with the car size you need for your luggage.

  • Hurghada city: 10–25 minutes, from €10 per car
  • Sahl Hasheesh: 20–30 minutes, from €12
  • Makadi Bay: 30–45 minutes, from €17
  • El Gouna: 30–40 minutes, from €12
  • Soma Bay and Safaga: 45–60 minutes, from €25
  • Marsa Alam: 3–3.5 hours, from €139

Prices are for a sedan for up to 3 people. Minivans and vans for families and groups, and child seats, can be added when you book.

6. The way home

For your flight home, plan to be at the airport about three hours before departure. We pick you up from your hotel at the time on your voucher and check your flight the day before.
